Our Desa, located on the island of Bali, is a cultural village built on a foundation of regeneration, community, and creativity.

Over the past several years, we have embarked on a journey toward zero waste, driven by our commitment to making a positive environmental impact through the art of good times, transforming our operations to achieve 97.5% zero waste to landfill and launching the island-wide initiative the Community Waste Project to expand our impact across Bali.

Beyond waste management, we reimagine discarded materials, creating homeware and furniture through a closed-loop circular design system. Our first Wasted collection is designed by Max Lamb and hand-crafted by the Bali community.

A modern-day craftsman, Max Lamb is a furniture designer whose design sensibility is shaped by his deep knowledge of manufacturing techniques, respect for materials, and skill as a maker. A native of Cornwall, Max has been tinkering with objects and engaging with the physical landscape since childhood.
After earning a master’s degree in product design at the Royal College of Art in 2006, he established his own design practice in London.

Max explores both traditional and unconventional materials and processes, blending experimentation with rationale to create furniture and products that are honest and intelligible. His process-driven approach to design has earned him numerous awards and accolades, as well as collaborations with companies such as Nike, Acne Studios, Hem, E&Y, Lobmeyr, and the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Max has remained at the forefront of sustainable design through his inventive use of materials. In 2023, he unveiled BOX, an exhibition at Gallery FUMI in London, showcasing 33 pieces of furniture made entirely from cardboard waste collected in his studio. The collection featured 23 chairs, a sofa, a dining table, all crafted using cardboard and a simple homemade glue made from flour and water.

Beyond his design practice, Lamb is the author of publications like My Grandfather’s Tree (2015), Exercises in Seating (2018), and The Inventory (2025), which delve into his design philosophy. Max started creating furniture and products for Potato Head in 2019, and after five years of in-house R&D we are now launching the WASTED collection.
